I just finished #12 up last week.

Indian Rosewood back and side
Sinker Cedar from Mr. Woolson
Bloodwood binding
Fretboard and bridge are both IRW
Honduran Mahogany Neck with maple/s.cedar laminate

I, unfortunately, did not get any sound clips :(

Let me know what you guys think.

Very beautiful, mate! Looks quality. Love the binding and rosette choices. Excellent inlay work all round.

Impeccable – the fit and finish looks flawless. Love the contrast with the bloodwood bindings on both the top and the back and sides. [:Y:]

It's full of stars!

(well done, Marcus)

"Beautiful" would be an understatement. Inlaying the stars on the cedar top is daring, but I see you got plenty of practice!

Marcus, that is a very nice and interesting guitar. Now, to my personal taste, I'd like a few less stars on the top, but I LOVE the stars on the back. Don't interpret that remark as a criticism, because it is only an expression of my personal taste. It's not my guitar. It's yours. And I think it's wonderful! Your craftsmanship with regard to inlaying all those stars has just got my jaw hanging slack in the breeze, man. Congratulations!

Spectacular! The star theme is very well balanced. I personally would have had an anxiety attack inlaying those bad boys into such a beautiful top. Great execution and craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing.
I was about to execute my first headstock inlay; I guess I will have to use something other than a Monotype Corsiva "B" as planned. Lol. Back to the drawing board...

Love it ! - but now to my opinion - you need some stripes on that guitar - preferably red and white !!

Wow, that's a Star Trek for sure! As Capt. Picard would say "Nicely done!"

Very nice! I've been asked many times if I could do a cutaway on my size 2's. I never really saw the point. It seemed that a little guy like that needed all the air volume it could get.

Did you notice any change in tone with the cutaway compared to ones you have done without?

Thanks

Terry

Thanks, everyone, for the very kind words.

BTW, the finish is Tru Oil.

I didn't notice much of a difference. It might have sounded a little more shallow than another one I built without the cutaway. I was still impressed with the volume of these small guitars.

However, this one was rushed out the door and I didn't get enough time with the final product to really test out the sound on it. Unfortunate.

Beautiful. The wood choices work so well together, and the inlays are outstanding.
I'm more and more liking bloodwood for bindings. Relatively inexpensive, bends
well, and provides a great color contrast to so many of the tonewoods.

Stunning, Marcus! Amazing craftsmanship. How many sessions of Tru-Oil and did you do any sanding or buffing?

Post subject:  Re: #12 Finished (Parlor) Lots of Pics.

It seemed like I applied about 500 coats of Tru-Oil. In reality I was probably around 15-20 coats. It was my first Tru-Oil guitar so I had a few wasted coats as I was trying to figure out my process.

I used scotch brite/steel wool between each coat. I found that sandpaper was a little too aggressive.

I did buff it after about 2-3 weeks of curing. The finish is pretty soft so I had to move the guitar pretty fast or the I would buff through the finish.

Are the stars inlaid ? That must have taken you some time . Is it abalone or what material you use ? I need to learn about inlay now after seeing the brilliant job you have done here.
Are there any special secrets about inlaying or is it down to using a dremel and lots of patience

Sorry bout all the questions but i am a beginner
